In this episode, I’m joined by Mara Rosmann, a marine scientist and PhD researcher at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven. Mara’s journey into ocean science began with biology studies in Austria, led her through biological oceanography in Germany, and eventually took her to some of the coldest and most remote places on Earth—the polar oceans. Her research focuses on how carbon moves through the ocean along the East Antarctic margin, especially in regions where warm deep waters meet ice shelves. By joining ship-based expeditions in the Arctic and using natural tracers like radiocarbon, Mara helps us better understand how Antarctica & the Arctic influence Earth’s climate—and how this system may be changing. I’m excited to explore her journey, her work, and what it all means for our planet.
